Tips for a clean recording
- Record in a small room with soft furnishings. Even a wardrobe full of clothes makes a decent vocal booth.
- Do a 10-second test first and listen back on headphones before recording something long.
- Keep a steady distance from the microphone so your volume doesn't jump around.
- Silence notifications on your phone and computer: they are easy to miss while recording and hard to remove afterwards.
What to do next with your recording
Need to trim the start or end? Open the file in our audio cutter. Want a different format or a smaller file? Use the audio converter. Microphone not picking anything up? Run themic test first.
Frequently asked questions
Is this voice recorder free?
Yes, completely free with no time limit, no watermark and no sign-up. The site is supported by ads, which don't interrupt recording.
Where are my recordings saved?
Only in this browser tab until you download them. They aren't uploaded anywhere, which also means they're lost if you close the tab without downloading, so we warn you before you leave.
How long can I record?
There is no fixed limit. Recordings are held in memory, so on most computers an hour or more is fine. On phones, keep the screen on and the tab open while recording.
Which format should I choose?
MP3 is best for sharing and voice notes. WAV is uncompressed, so it is larger but ideal if you will edit the audio later. "Original" downloads the browser's own format (WebM, OGG or M4A) instantly without converting.
Can I record on my iPhone or Android phone?
Yes. Open this page in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android, allow the microphone, and record. Downloads go to your Files app or Downloads folder.
Can I record my computer audio or a call?
This tool records your microphone only. Browsers don't allow websites to capture other apps' sound. Please only record conversations with everyone's consent.
