How to convert WAV to MP3

  1. Add your WAV recordings. You can add a whole session at once.
  2. Choose the MP3 quality: 192 kbps is a good default, 320 kbps for finished music.
  3. Click Convert. Each file shows its new size when it's done.
  4. Download individual MP3s or a single ZIP.

Why WAV files are so big

WAV stores every sample uncompressed, which is perfect for recording and editing but wasteful for sharing. MP3 removes details people can't hear, cutting the size by around ten times. Most email services cap attachments at 20–25 MB, roughly two minutes of WAV but over a quarter of an hour as MP3.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my files be?

A minute of CD-quality WAV is about 10 MB. As a 192 kbps MP3 it is about 1.4 MB, roughly 85–90% smaller.

Should I keep the WAV originals?

Yes, if you might edit or remaster the audio later. Keep WAV as your master copy and use MP3 for sharing.

Can I convert 24-bit or 96 kHz WAV files?

Yes. They are converted at the sample rate you choose (44.1 kHz by default), which is the standard for MP3.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Conversion runs in your browser on your own device, so your files never reach our servers, and large files are just as private as small ones.
